The release of Iraivan in cinemas has met with great expectations. The movie’s trailer was a huge hit, promising the audience a spine-chilling serial killer drama, and everyone was eager to watch it in theatres. According to reports, Jayam Ravi’s performance, the film’s background score, and action sequences received immense praises from the viewers.
Iraivan revolves around a serial killer. The movie narrates the story of a series of ruthless murders of young women. The story takes an unusual turn in the narrative. It doesn’t follow the typical whodunit formula. Instead, it reveals the identity of its main villain at the very beginning.
Actor Rahul Bose portrays the character of Brahma aka Smiley Killer, who abducts and brutally kills young women. Even though nearly everyone, including the police, appears to be aware of who he is, he still takes the lives of his victims. How is that possible? The film explains this.
Jayam Ravi plays a cop, who works on the fringes of the law. He engages in extrajudicial killing without an iota of guilt. Nayanthara plays his love interest in the movie. The film also stars Vijayalakshmi, Charlie, Azhagam Perumal, and Vinoth Kishen in the supporting roles.
Iraivan is directed by I Ahmed, who has previously directed Endrendrum Punnagai and Manithan. The film is backed by Sudhan Sundaram and Jayaram G, under the banner of Passion Studios. The cinematography of Iraivan is done by Hari K Vedanth, and the editing is done by Manikanda Balaji. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed Iraivan’s music.
Reports suggest that Iraivan marks the second collaboration between Jayam Ravi and Ahmed after Jana Gana Mana, a big-budget spy thriller that is yet to be completed. The film’s shoot was halted halfway due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the composer for Jana Gana Mana as well.
