New Delhi: Flying within the country just got a bit more expensive with domestic airliners increasing fuel surcharge. Jet Airways has already hiked its fares and other airlines are soon to follow suit.
The increase comes after oil companies raised the price of aviation turbine fuel by 12 to 14 per cent.
Passengers will now have to pay an additional surcharge of Rs 150 on flights up to 750 km, that is, on flights that last about an hour, and Rs 350 on longer flights.
Till now, only a uniform surcharge of Rs 1,650 was being levied. Most airliners are likely to introduce the hike from next week.
However, looking at the profile of fliers and the options they have on the domestic circuit, it's tough to say how they will react.
