New Delhi: It was yet another weak session for the markets and they ended in red near day's low. It was a range bound session but with bouts of volatility till noon but slipped deeper in the negative terrain during the final hour of trade.
The cues from Asian were not very supportive either. Asian indices end flat to negative.
All the BSE sector indices closed in red. Metal index was seen in green till noon but soon gave up its gains as profit booking set in. Auto, bank, IT, pharma and oil & gas stocks were among the top losers.
The mid cap and small cap indices under performed the frontline indices giving market negative breadth.
Sensex closed down 113.79 points or 0.82 per cent at 13765.46, and the Nifty down 34.15 points or 0.83 per cent at 4077.
About 838 shares have advanced, 1674 shares declined, and 69 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,939.25 down 1.2 per cent. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,779.82 down 1.1 per cent. The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.3 per cent at 1,806.15. Shaw Wallace, Dabur India, HLL, Nirma closed in red.
The BSE Metal Index was down 0.1 per cent to close at 9,932.54. Hind Zinc, JindalStainless, Jindal Saw, Guj NRE Coke were among the losers
The BSE Health Care Index was down 1.1 per cent at 3,697.17. Glenmark, GlaxoSmithKline, Divis Labs, Orchid Chemical, Dr Reddys Labs closed lower.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.3 per cent at 9,899.72. KEC Infrastruct, SKF India, HEG, Lakshmi Machine, Alstom Projects ended lower
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,980.06 down 1.2 per cent. Cummins, Hero Honda, Mah and Mah, Ashok Leyland, Escorts among the losers. The BSE IT Index closed at 4,932.89 down 1.6 per cent. HCL Info, Mphasis, I-Flex Solution, Patni Computer ended weak.
The BSE Bankex was down 1 per cent at 6,752.64. SBI, Bank of India, IOB, Bank of Baroda, Centurion BoP closed lower. The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,249.34 down 1 per cent. GAIL, Reliance Natura, HPCL, BPCL, IOC, Petronet LNG closed in red.
