New Delhi: Former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday said that the fare hike proposed in the rail budget by Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi would be a big burden on the passengers.
Dismissing the popular belief that the fare hike would bring the money needed, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said that the step not be able to bail out the Indian Railways.
When asked about Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee saying that there must be a rollback on the hike, Lalu said, "There must be a discussion and the hike in the fare must be taken back."
Referring to his tenure as the Railway Minister, Lalu said that he brought profits without implementing any fare hike.
Lalu said, "In our time, we managed to decrease the fare and at the same time, increase the profits."
Earlier, the former minister had termed the budget as disappointing, pointing that he had never before heard of annexures in rail budget.
