In A Rare Medical Case, Python Undergoes 3-hour Surgery For Constipation
Doctors said that the python ingested a substantial mass of hardened faeces, which was causing him discomfort and lethargy.

A rare incident unfolded in Bantwal City in Dakshina Kannada district, Bengaluru, after a snake rescuer Dhiraj Navoor found a python in distress. The snake rescuer found the reptile near a house; the animal appeared unwell to him. Initially, he thought that the snake was injured after he was hit by someone. He immediately decided to take the snake to a veterinary doctor. He took the python to the Little Paws Veterinary Clinic in Mangaluru on his motorcycle. The snake was examined at this clinic.

After a thorough examination, veterinarians discovered that the python was suffering due to constipation. Dr Yashaswi Naravi, the founder and veterinary surgeon of Little Paws Veterinary Clinic, explained the serpent’s condition. He said in an interview that the python had ingested a substantial mass of hardened faeces, which was causing him discomfort and lethargy.

The snake underwent surgery after an ultrasound examination. The surgery was three hours long. Dr Naravi revealed that during the surgery, all the obstructive faecal matter was removed which was followed by antibiotics and pain medication for five days. He also said that this type of ailment is uncommon in pythons. He called it one of the rare cases in his career.

The python was released back into its natural habitat near the area, where it was initially found. The veterinarians believe that the snakes shouldn’t be released too far from the rescue site. It’s important to ensure the animal’s familiar surroundings. The doctor didn’t charge a rupee for the treatment. When asked about the expenses, Dr Naravi responded, “Honestly, I didn’t count the cost. We do it as part of the charity and out of our own interest,” as quoted in the Times Of India report. The doctor along with his wife Dr Meghana Pemmaiah bore the expenses of treatment and medication.
