After seeing the multiple delays and cancellations of several flights due to bad weather in Delhi, the Minister of State (MoS) in Civil Aviation, Gen. (D V. K. Singh (Retd), shared all the steps that were being taken then to provide affected passengers with full comfort.
While delivering brief details about the same in parliament in a written reply, Singh called the unprecedented fog one of the primary root causes of interruptions in service. He said most of the flights were affected during December last year and the start of 2024 is due to low visibility and non-availability of Runway.
Here’s What MoS Aviation Informed
As per the details shared by the MoS aviation, he said, an additional 130-140 manpower were deployed at the airport during foggy season. All the professionals were there to help flyers, and to handle the impact of NOTAM during specific hours.
It also has been informed that a dedicated medical team was also appointed, which was on the ground at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to deal with any kind of mishap.
Additional Seating Arrangement
In order to provide a comfortable seating arrangement for all the passengers inside the airport, who were affected due to flight delays or cancellations, more than 700+ seats were arranged across 3 terminals. It also has been informed by the MoS aviation that all affected passengers were treated with food & beverages, leaving no stone unturned to make them relax during that time.
Civil Aviation Requirements By DGCA
To handle unwanted situations in the future, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also has issued Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 8, Series C, Part I, on “All Weather Operations (AWO)” which stipulates the requirement of the crew to undergo CAT II/CAT III training.
