Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d: The 'S-Class of SUVs' Comes to India at Rs 80.4 Lakh
This is the company's fourth model launch in the country out of the 12 planned for this year.

New Delhi: German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz launched an upgraded version of its seven-seater SUV GLS 350d in India at a price of Rs 80.4 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). Mercedes, however, refers to this car as the 'S-Class of SUVs'.

The GLS 350 d comes equipped with the Apple CarPlay, which provides options to make calls, listen to music, send and receive text messages, and provides access to select third-party apps.

Talking about the design, the GLS sports a 20-inch 10-spoke light-alloy wheels that is said to enhance the sporty appeal of the SUV. The headlamp layout, however, is borrowed from the GLE and GLE Coupe.

The model, as Mercedes-Benz says, would be assembled at the company's Chakan (Pune) based manufacturing facility.

"India has growing penchant for SUVs and at 100 per cent growth achieved in 2015, it was the highest growing segment for us," said Roland Folger, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz.

"India has also emerged as one of the top ten markets for the GLS globally," he added.

This is the company's fourth model launch in the country out of the 12 planned for this year.

The model, which is above 2,000 cc, would not be sold in Delhi-NCR market due to the ban imposed by the Supreme Court.

Terming the current uncertain situation surrounding diesel vehicles as a "lost opportunity for India", the German auto giant said its investments will be affected in the long term if the Supreme Court ban continued.

"Most of the decisions are postponed rather than completely cancelled. If the ban continues, then certainly cancellations will come into play," said Folger.
