Japanese automaker renowned for compact city cars and capable off-roaders will be sticking to what it does best at the 2016 Paris Mondial de l'Automobile with just two new models.
At just 3.7 meters from nose to tail and 1.66m wide, the Suzuki Ignis will be one of the smallest new cars making its European debut in Paris. Yet despite its compact proportions, Suzuki has managed to squeeze a hybrid system into the little crossover. The powertrain system called the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki), takes the strain off the gas engine at higher revs so that there is no noticeable drop or lag in performance or in fuel levels.
Alternatively, the car will also be available with economical 1.0-liter and 1.2-liter engines and the option of all-wheel drive. The idea is that the Ignis is the perfect urban run-around that can also handle weekend leisure pursuits. And considering how well designed the car is, it could well turn the heads of those that would otherwise be considering a Fiat Panda, Smart ForFour or a Ford Ka.
Jumping from the A-segment to the C-Segment, the Suzuki S-Cross is another crossover and currently the biggest car that isn't a genuine SUV in its current line up. It has had a serious overhaul for 2017 and the refreshed model will be making its global debut in Paris. The new S-Cross is sharper to look at than its predecessor and is slightly more aggressive, thanks to an increased ride height. It now has 180 mm of ground clearance compared to the original model's 165 mm.
The cabin's quality feel has improved significantly with soft touch materials on all models while depending on trim specification, Bluetooth connectivity, air conditioning, cruise control, sat nav, a parking camera and sensors, radar assisted brake support and a double sliding panoramic roof is available as standard or options.
Also available is Suzuki's ALLGRIP four-wheel drive system that can send the right amount of torque to the right wheels at the right time. Yet, when paired with one of the company's BoosterJet engines, won't impact on fuel economy or CO2 emissions. For example, the 1.0-liter model offers 110 hp, 170 Nm of torque yet its CO2 emissions are 119 g/km.
