Kamala Harris' Zoom fundraiser shatters records with 100,000 supporters and over $1.8 million raised. Star-studded event faces tech issues but remains a success

Kamala Harris supporters broke a Zoom attendance record on Thursday night, raising over $1.8 million for the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate.

The event, which included American celebrities like Pink and Connie Britton, attracted more than 100,000 participants, causing technical difficulties that led some attendees to switch to a YouTube livestream, according to Wrapdotcom.

Britton, known for her role in “Friday Night Lights,” expressed excitement about Harris’s campaign, stating, “When Biden stepped down and endorsed Kamala Harris, the world blew up. It was seismic, cosmic, even.”

‘Let’s get loud’

Pink joined the call after performing in Stockholm, Sweden, and stressed the importance of women’s voices in the political arena. “Let’s get loud,” she urged her followers. The fundraiser kicked off with comedian Carol Leif pledging $500,000, which was quickly matched by others. Shannon Watts, an anti-gun activist, also spoke, urging attendees to vote as if their safety depended on it.

This event marked the third major Zoom call for Harris since President Biden announced he would not seek re-election. Earlier calls included 44,000 Black women and 50,000 Black men, raising $1.5 million and $1.3 million, respectively. The Thursday night call predominantly featured white women, and another Zoom event is scheduled for this Sunday, which will be open to all supporters.

Harris’s campaign has seen a significant surge in donations, reporting over $100 million raised within the first 36 hours of her campaign launch. This influx of support is attributed to grassroots donors, with many contributing for the first time. As her US presidential campaign goes ahead, Harris aims to galvanize support and solidify her position as the Democratic nominee.
