Israeli president Isaac Herzog on Tuesday signalled that the country is willing to engage in another foreign-mediated Gaza truce to recover hostages held by the militant group Hamas amid the war.
Hezorg said that such a truce would be beneficial for both sides as it would enable more aid to reach the Palestinian enclave, Reuters reported.
“Israel is ready for another humanitarian pause and additional humanitarian aid to enable the release of hostages,” the news agency quoted Herzog as during a gathering of ambassadors.
The Israeli President also added that the responsibility lies fully with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other Hamas leaders.
Hamas on Another Truce With Israel
Hamas, on the other hand, rejected holding negotiations over the exchange of prisoners during the Israel-Hamas war adding that it will however be open to any kind of initiative to end the war.
“We affirm our position of categorically rejecting to hold any form of negotiations over prisoners exchange under the continuing Israeli genocidal war. We are, however, open to any initiative that contributes to ending the aggression on our people and opening the crossings to bring in aid and provide relief to the Palestinian people,” the agency quoted Basem Naem as saying.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is expected to stop the fighting in Gaza after it was delayed by a day amid ongoing negotiations to stave off another United States veto and as Israel faces growing international pressure to change its tactics in the war against Hamas.
