The post even suggested that the gold medal “weighs 529 grams and 95.4% is actually made of silver. Only six grams consists of pure gold.” If the medal had been made of pure gold, it would have been valued at “approximately $41,161.50,” the Instagram post claimed. As per Wealth’s update, the last time pure gold medals were presented was in 1912.
Reacting to it, one social media user commented, “Winning one is priceless though. You’re immortalised as the best in the world.”
Referring to viral shooter Yusuf Dikec’s achievements at the Paris Olympics, another person cheekily commented, “Almost 100% made of silver, that should be a crime, no wonder that Turkish guy went for silver instead of gold, he got 100% silver.”
“No wonder they bite their medals to see if it’s real gold,” read a hilarious response.
“Wow, so the gold is really silver, the bronze is probably dried up dookie underneath,” an Instagram funnily observed.
The USA and China have so far won 21 gold medals each at the 2024 Paris Olympics. France and Australia come next with each of them bagging 13 gold medals so far in the event.
