The Ejipura Flyover – whose completion rivals the likelihood of a traffic-free day in Bengaluru has once again captured attention, this time with a dash of hope, albeit tinged with amusement. How, you ask? Well, this forever-incomplete project was playfully handed over to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for completion using nothing but ‘technology’! Wait, what?
It all unfolded when Altman turned to ‘X’ last week, inviting users to suggest prompts for converting text into video using their AI tool called Sora, currently in the testing phase. The response was overwhelming, with thousands of requests pouring in. One intriguing request came from “Peak Bengaluru,” a popular ‘X’ account dedicated to all things related to India’s startup capital. The account, known for its quirky take on Bengaluru’s quirks, asked Altman to create a video envisioning a fully completed Ejipura flyover in the city’s south.
“Fully completed Ejipura flyover with vehicle movement,” they commented on Altman’s post.

Oh, the irony! The mere thought of witnessing such a spectacle seems plausible only in the realm of fantasy, prompting Bengalureans to jest that they’ve truly seen it all and can now depart this world in peace!
Though Altman didn’t wave his magic wand to fulfill this wish, the post stirred up a storm of amusement online, with users contributing their quirky prompts for Sora, igniting a blaze of banter.
“Vehicle movement on any Bangalore road ;)” replied one user. Another added, “One variation with the at-grade bus lane, wide footpaths, lots of trees and no flyover also please.”
For nearly seven long years, the unfinished flyover near the upscale Koramangala district has stood as a monument to bureaucratic stagnation, humourously called the “Bangalore Stonehenge” by wry Google Maps users, as if it were a relic of a bygone era, silently witnessing the city’s chaos unfold below.

Originally meant to bridge Ejipura and Madiwala, easing congestion and enhancing connectivity, progress has been as elusive as a fleeting dream since its inception in 2017.
And just when you thought its futility had reached its zenith, pictures of lampposts standing tall atop the flyover pillars emerged on the internet in July 2023, breathing yet another lease of purpose into this seemingly futile structure!
