In the world of geopolitics, India and China are often seen as competitors, especially when it comes to manufacturing. Recently, industrialist Harsh Goenka shared a video in which American entrepreneur and author Patrick Bet-David praised India’s foreign policy with China and asserted that India was succeeding in surpassing its Asian neighbour’s influence over the world. In the clip, Patrick says, “iPhones are now being made in India. First time not being made in China. It says, ‘made in India’. Guess who blocked TikTok in their country – India. Who blocked 100 apps in China? India.” He then goes on to say that India has learned from China’s mistakes in dealing with the USA and also noted its policy failures like the ‘one-child policy’ and overexpansion.

Patrik argues that today the average age of a Chinese person is 38.4 years old, while in India, it is 27 or 28 years. He said, “India is not afraid of China”. While praising India’s education and skill development, he argued, “India’s IIT institutes are producing incredible engineers – many companies here (the US) will hire Indian engineers and they’re rockstars, better than MIT in many cases. India is very important for the next 20-30-40 years. As long as India is there, China’s going to hate it, they’re not going to like it.”
This post has gathered hundreds of likes. Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “India is the future of this planet. Without India the world has no existence. Our holistic legacy is remarkable, none can match it. Our youth power has tremendous potential, if utilised brilliantly then nothing is impossible for us. Hope India will emerge unique as always.”
Another person wrote, “India has great potential, even China knows that, we need to improve our manufacturing and transport facilities like fast approvals and increase freight speed.”
However, not everyone was impressed with Patrick’s reasoning. An X user reasoned, “So American Corporate Greed is now India’s counter policy against China? If India has IITs, then China also has Tsinghua and Peking. Think about it.”
Another person remarked, “I have been hearing such stories since the 90s when people used to compare China & India. India will never achieve its true potential due to poor political leadership across the spectrum.”
An X user wrote, “iPhone assembling in India and parts coming from China + govt giving subsidy to Apple. Same case with Xiaomi and other brands. Assembling is not equal to manufacturing??”
What do you think about Patrik’s assessment of India vis-a-vis China?
