In our childhood days, cartoons were our daily dose of joy, with “Tom and Jerry” being one of our favourites. The never-ending cat-and-mouse chase never failed to amaze us. Our holidays would be spent sprawled out in front of the TV, eyes glued to the screen as Tom schemed and Jerry outsmarted him at every turn. Their antics were enough to keep us hooked episode after episode. “Tom and Jerry” has a timeless appeal evident through a recent stint by the Kolkata Metro. The metro authorities have started playing the beloved cartoon show on digital display screens inside trains running on the North-South stretch to entertain young passengers. This innovative step by the Kolkata Metro is a first of its kind and is sure to bring smiles to passengers of all ages.
The video has been circulating online, with the caption, “The initiative aims to enhance the travel experience and provide wholesome entertainment during metro rides. Passengers of all ages can now enjoy classic animated adventures while commuting through the city.”

Needless to say, people online are loving it. A user commented, “Need this in Delhi Metro ASAP.” Another user wrote in disbelief, “Imagine, 30 feet under river Ganga, travelling from Salt Lake sector 5 to Howrah via Sealdah and watching Tom and Jerry. Like seriously, I can’t imagine how Kolkata grew with me.”
“Men will see this and go: HELL YEAH!!!!,” another comment read.
Someone else joked, “Kids?? Their view would be blocked by me.”
Meanwhile, others who rode the train, claim that a 1-min clip of the show is played on a loop, rather than the whole episode. “1 min clip keeps playing on loop… We want the whole episode,” one user wrote, while another doubled down, “Same 1 minute clip they keep repeating.”
What do you think of this initiative?
