The 2024 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), renowned as the most influential tech event globally, witnessed a notable departure from the typical dominance of major technology and automotive corporations. Instead, according to the Guardian, the spotlight was claimed by 1,400 startups, each showcasing their prototypes with the aspiration of capturing the attention of consumers and investors alike. Amidst this sea of fresh ideas, Kohler, a venerable plumbing product manufacturer with a century-long legacy, unveiled a toilet seat that responds to your voice commands.
Priced at $2,139 (Rs 1,77,487.93), the PureWash E930 bidet toilet seat from Kohler introduces a level of technological sophistication that goes beyond conventional expectations for bathroom fixtures. This transformative accessory, designed to fit most toilet seats, not only elevates your bathroom experience but also integrates with virtual assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant, allowing for hands-free operation.
Billed as Kohler’s “slimmest bidet seat design yet,” the PureWash E930 boasts a sleek profile with a minimalistic 3.5-inch tall seat. The device offers a myriad of customisable features, including the ability to adjust the bidet spray’s temperature and water pressure. Users can choose between a gentle “child mode” or a high-pressure “boost spray,” while the stainless steel wand undergoes automatic UV cleaning every 24 hours.
Despite its hefty price tag, the PureWash E930 presents a cost-effective alternative to fully integrated smart toilets, potentially saving users both money and the installation complexities associated with high-end models ranging from $8,000 (Rs 662,960) to $10,000 (Rs 828,700).
The hands-free functionality of the PureWash E930 is enhanced by motion sensors that open and close the cover without physical contact. This bidet seat features a self-cleaning mode utilising its built-in UV light, and its operation can be controlled through voice commands with Alexa or Google Home. Voice assistants can activate the bidet spray, warm air dryer and UV cleaning.
Additional features include front and rear wash modes, a heated seat and a remote control with two programmable presets. The bidet mists the toilet bowl before use for more effective rinsing during flushing, and users can adjust water temperature and pressure, choosing between oscillating or pulsating sprays. The rear-only boost spray mode automatically maximises pressure, while a child mode ensures a soft and gentle wash for younger users. The warm-air system with adjustable temperature settings facilitates a comfortable drying experience.
Moreover, the PureWash E930 is equipped with LED lighting to serve as a nightlight and features Kohler’s “Quiet-Close” technology, preventing seat slamming. The quick-release function allows for easy removal, facilitating deeper cleanings and ensuring hygiene.
Currently available for order in white on Kohler’s website, a black colour variant of the PureWash E930 is slated for release in late February.
