Shocking Study Reveals Dangerous Bacteria May Wander Inside Your Microwave Oven
In their study, the team took samples of microorganisms from a total of 30 microwaves: 10 from domestic kitchens, 10 from cafeterias and 10 from scientific laboratories.

Do you also feel that there are some exclusive dishes you can’t cook in your house just because you don’t have a microwave? Or, if you have one, do you also use it just for reheating ready-made meals? But the findings of a new study might make you think twice before using your microwave. Read this article to learn more about the study here.

The research was reportedly done by a startup from Paterna, Spain. The name of the company that made this research is Darwin Bioprospecting Excellence SL. The study found that some microorganisms can stay inside a microwave oven and can resist radiation. The researchers mentioned that the most concerning part is that these organisms can be deadly for human beings.

Previously, some unique microorganisms were found in places like marine oil spills, industrial brownfields, and even inside the International Space Station. But until now, it wasn’t clear what types of microorganisms might be found inside microwaves.

In their study, the team took samples of microorganisms from a total of 30 microwaves: 10 from domestic kitchens, 10 from cafeterias and 10 from scientific laboratories. The study from these samples revealed 747 species of microorganisms within 25 bacterial phyla. The organisms varied by location.

Speaking on this development, a researcher named Daniel Torrent said, “Some species of genera were found in the domestic microwave ovens that can pose serious threats to human health. Some of the organisms found can affect the blood. Others can cause various illnesses such as pneumonia, kidney disease, cellulitis and meningitis.”

Based on the study, the researchers have requested that people thoroughly clean their microwave ovens regularly. Mr Torrent further added, “Following this study, we want to advise people using microwaves to disinfect it regularly using diluted bleach solution or commercially available disinfectant sprays. It is very important to wipe the interior surfaces with a wet cloth after every use to remove any residue and to clean up spills immediately to prevent bacterial growth.”
