It might seem unfeasible to refrain from using your phone for an entire month, but one company claims that it will be worthwhile. A company called Siggi’s Dairy, or simply Siggi’s, produces yoghurt in the Icelandic style. They are willing to pay $10,000 (approximately Rs 8.31 lakh) and other prizes to ten lucky winners who choose to participate in their 30-day digital detox programme.
According to the company’s website, “Instead of abstaining from alcohol for a month, we challenge you to ditch your smartphone.” The concept is similar to Dry January, meaning going alcohol-free for the whole month. Selected individuals will give up their smartphones and live analogue for a month, keeping them safe in a box provided. The competition aims to “Show people the benefits of going digital-free in hopes that this can start new healthy habits for the New Year,” according to Siggi.
Winners will receive $10,000 (roughly Rs 8.31 lakh) for taking a digital break, along with a retro flip phone and prepaid SIM card for emergencies, and a three-month supply of Siggi’s yoghurt to keep them fueled while they explore without technology. “We think there is great power in leading a less complicated, distracted-free life. Our phones are one of the biggest sources of distraction in our lives today,” the contest website claims.

Anyone interested in taking part in Siggi’s digital detox programme must complete an online submission form by Wednesday, January 31, 2024. According to the application form, you must provide your first and last name, email address, and country, confirm that you are over the age of 18, and submit a compelling essay on “Why you need a digital detox in your life and how it will positively impact you.”
Entry is free and requires no purchase or payment to participate or win. Each participant can only submit once during the Contest Entry Period. Any submissions exceeding the above limit will be void.
Who can take part in the competition?
According to Siggi, entries are open to legal residents of all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, who are at least 18 years old. More information on the contest’s conditions and official rules can be found in Siggi’s rulebook. On February 15, 2024, a panel of five judges will select ten potential winners from all eligible entries. The winners will then be informed via registered email address.
