'Poha is Worst': Popular Indian Breakfast Has Desis in an Age-old Debate on 'X'
'You don't like Poha?': Age-old debate reignites after viral post calls the beloved Indian breakfast 'worst'.

What’s that one Indian breakfast no Desi can go without at least once a week? Poha, of course. This lightweight, tasty, and easy-to-make dish is an Indian favourite for breakfast. But is there anyone who doesn’t love this beloved Poha? Well, apparently so, as it recently sparked the age-old debate between its lovers and haters.

It all began when an ‘X’ user shared a picture of Poha with the caption, “Tell me a worse breakfast than this.” Naturally, this triggered Poha enthusiasts, who rushed in with spicy comebacks to the viral post.

“Poha is literally TOP TIER. If you hate Poha, you just don’t know how to cook it right,” declared one user. “If you don’t like Poha for breakfast, your mom probably doesn’t know how to cook it,” echoed another. A third added, “Literally every other breakfast is worse because Poha is the best breakfast of all time,” while a fourth remarked, “That’s an insult and an assault on Poha.”

However, there were those who agreed with the original post. One said, “It’s not top tier. It’s one of the worst. Also, it’s flattened rice. You don’t need skills to cook poha. Same goes with idli too. “ Another added, “Poha needs to decide what it wants to be first. It’s like that person who gets their personality from everywhere yet has no substance of their own. An empty shell of pretences if you may.” A third chimed in, “I totally agree with you,” while a fourth continued, “I thought it was just me.”

Amidst this, Poha often finds itself at the centre of social media discussions. A while back, a Gujarati individual shared a hilarious post about a long-standing misinterpretation of the lyrics “Pawwa chadake aayi” from the song ‘Chikni Chameli’. They humorously believed it referred to “Poha” instead of “Pawwa.”

In a post by @spicydabeli on ‘X,’ the person quipped, “Poha is pronounced “pawwa” in Gujarati. So for eighteen years of my life I thought Chikni Chameli would sneak out of her home, cook poha for her kids, and then dance at the bar.” LOL! Whether deliberate or fabricated (because the song isn’t eighteen years old), the man undeniably sparked laughter online.
