The collapse of several bridges in Bihar has drawn attention to the state’s reputation. Recently, an unusual problem has stirred on Bhootnath Road in Patna, Bihar. Amongst the busy traffic, two to three electricity poles have been placed right in the middle of the road. This unconventional positioning is raising eyebrows and prompting questions about the planning and execution of infrastructure in the area.

Sanjeet Kumar Mahato, a resident of Agam Kuan, shared his views with Local 18 about the electric poles placed in the middle of the road. He finds them the engineering work. Mahato questioned the background of the engineers who installed them. He noted that these poles have been on the road for a long time. Mahato expressed concern about safety due to several accidents, particularly at night. However, it appears that neither the electricity department nor the city council is keen on removing them.

Kaushal Kumar, who lives on Bhoothnath Road, spoke to Local 18, expressing his disappointment that the local public representatives haven’t taken any action regarding the issue. He highlighted the danger posed to both four-wheeler and two-wheeler drivers due to the poles placed in the middle of the road. Another resident, Vinod Kumar, shared similar concerns, mentioning that he has observed the pole in the road’s centre for over ten years. He also pointed out the lack of inspections by authorities to address the area’s accident risk.

Earlier, in a similar instance, a few days after a report by Times Of India highlighted a footbridge pillar obstructing traffic near the Noida Sector 52 metro station, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) clarified that it constructed the footbridge back in 2019. It was well before the Noida Authority built an underpass in the same location in 2021.

Initially, the pillar was built on the side of the road. But as the road’s width and design were altered for the underpass construction, it ended up in the middle of the thoroughfare.
