There is no end to the intriguing ways people come up with to make or break records. They all aspire to attain recognition for doing something truly unique. A man from Mudjimba Beach, Queensland, Australia, named Les Stewart had a similar desire. He stumbled upon a bizarre idea. He typed the numbers to one million in words and spent 16 years doing it. It sounds shocking but it is true. He started to type the numbers in 1982 with a typewriter and completed his record on December 7, 1998. It took him 19,990 quarto sheets and 1000 ink ribbons as well to complete this record. Guinness World Records tweeted a photo of Les and a picture of the numbers he had typed on January 10, 2022. Piles of many sheets in which he had typed the numbers are placed opposite Les.

Guinness World Records came up with a humorous tweet in this context. The tweet says,” Break Records, Not Hearts.”

As per an earlier article by Courier Mail, many told Les that this task would be physically toiling and time-consuming. Les, however, remained undeterred and started his seemingly unachievable quest. As per the portal. the newspaper Sunshine Coast Daily gave him the first of the seven manual typewriters he used. In an interaction with the portal, Les said,” I was excited to see my picture this year because I knew some people were having a go at beating it by counting, but I think no one has tried to sit down and type it all out the way I did.” Les added, “I just did what I was best at and if you do what you’re good at, then you’re halfway there.”
Les’ achievement also garnered an international audience when his record was listed as the third-most bizarre world record ever on Oddee. Oddee is a website that lists odd happenings around the world. His record has remained at number three.
A similar record was made by an Indian man named Mejari Mallikarjuna as well.
