In Viral Pic, Bengaluru Residents Catch Fish In Flooded Basement

Bengaluru, which is often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley, is currently experiencing a weather-related crisis as a result of the recent, persistent rains that have caused multiple streets to become mini-rivers and plunged the city into anarchy. The city’s infrastructure is beginning to show symptoms of strain, daily commuters are facing more difficulties, and traffic jams and inundated roadways are becoming a familiar sight.

After intense rains on October 15 wreaked havoc across Bengaluru, locals had to work quickly the following day to remove floodwaters from their houses and extract cars from submerged basements. Meanwhile, residents of the Kendriya Vihar housing complex in Yelahanka also had to deal with limited mobility, flooded basements and no electricity. As per reports, two tractors were sent out by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to help residents—including families and elderly people—leave the property.

In the middle of all the mayhem, Yelahanka locals were taken aback to find a big fish in the flooded basement of Kendriya Vihar, the flat where late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam lived. Recently, pictures that are making the rounds on social media show locals and firefighters attempting to pump water out of the basement while clutching their big catch.

According to local reports, several residents in Kendriya Vihar have listed their apartments for sale because they are so irritated by the seasonal flooding.

Due to unstable weather brought on by a low-pressure system that developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal, Bengaluru has come to a complete standstill after two days of intense rains. On October 16–17, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning about potential heavy rainfall for Bengaluru Urban and other Karnataka districts, including Ramanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Kodagu.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar attacked the opposition parties for demeaning Bengaluru due to the intense rainstorm. “It is not possible to control nature. The government is doing the best it can to manage the rain havoc. The opposition parties must stop tarnishing the image of Bengaluru,” Shivakumar said while speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence.
