In Hazaribagh’s Pugmil, Waterlogged Roads Give Locals A Hard Time
Though the issue was addressed at many government offices, no measures have been taken.

The main road of the Hazaribagh area to Chatra has turned into a pond in Pugmil, Hazaribagh (Jharkhand). The local people claimed that heavy rains led to this waterlogging of 1 to 2 feet on the road. Big potholes can also be seen in some places on the road. Because of this, many electric rickshaws and motorcycles are frequently meeting with accidents, making the locals worried. The local people of that area, appealed to the local public representatives and at many government offices to recover the condition of the road but nothing was done by the authorities to make the situation better, disappointing people. In order to get rid of this huge problem, people started protesting on roads. They rested in the water on Jal Satyagraha. They indulge themselves in a unique way of protesting, where a man was seen lying on the road by igniting incense sticks, while many people are mourning around him.

Shahid Ali, one of the locals, claims that this is not something new. Since the last three years, the condition of the road has not improved. Starting from the month of July to October, roads face waterlogging, resulting in daily massacres. Many people also got injured after meeting with accidents due to this messed-up situation.

He further said that during the rainy season, people of this entire area avoid coming to the market, making it challenging for local shopkeepers. He further added that if one goes out of the house with clean clothes then by the time they reach home, their clothes get smeared with mud.

This messed-up situation on the road also forces other drivers to seek alternative routes which take longer time than the usual, causing delays. Heavy rains have resulted in extensive flooding, damaging the roads and submerging it under several feet of water. With more rains expected in the coming days, the locals are actually worried over the situation.
