In a harrowing incident in Kalyanpur village, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, a 15-foot python attempted to swallow a man alive before quick-thinking villagers intervened and rescued him. The dramatic incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media. The victim narrowly escaped death when the massive python coiled around him while he was relieving himself in a forested area. His cries for help alerted nearby villagers, who rushed to his aid.

Upon hearing his desperate cries, nearby villagers swiftly responded to rescue the man, who was already ensnared completely by the 15-foot python. Trembling in fear, he sat helpless while the villagers gathered around, determined to free him. Acting without hesitation, the locals attempted to pry the python away from the man, but their efforts proved futile against the snake’s grip. Fearing for the man’s life, they resorted to using axes, stones, and other sharp tools at hand to kill the python and secure his release.

Displaying remarkable bravery, they managed to pry open the snake’s jaws and free the man from its grip. Witnesses recount a scene of chaos and desperation as the villagers struggled to overpower the python and release the man from its grasp. The entire ordeal, which lasted several tense minutes, underscores the dangers posed by wildlife encounters in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the video capturing the intense rescue effort has sparked widespread discussion and concern over wildlife-human interactions in the region.

Local authorities praised the villagers’ swift action, emphasising the importance of community vigilance in such situations. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and remain vigilant, particularly when venturing into forested areas known to be habitats for wild animals, including pythons.

The forest department has decided not to pursue legal action against the villagers involved in killing the python. Forest department officials stated that in cases where animals pose an immediate threat to human life, such actions are not considered criminal.

Mahesh Chandra Kushwaha, Conservator of Forest, commented on the incident, highlighting the critical circumstances where the python had constricted around the man’s neck, endangering his life. He emphasised that in such life-threatening situations, the only viable option to ensure the person’s survival is to neutralise the threat posed by the animal. He clarified that under these circumstances, no legal repercussions would be imposed on individuals who take necessary actions to safeguard human life.
