This is your chance to immerse yourself in the same locations that served as the backdrop for Mordor, home to the Dark Lord Sauron. The rocky slopes of Tongariro National Park, with jagged volcanic rock formations and eerie barren landscapes, were ideal for creating the moody scenes of Mordor. It’s a day filled with adventure and the opportunity to step into the world of Middle-earth. There are some fantastic tours to help you discover this region – one of our favorites is the sunset tour with Adrift Tongariro, where you can enjoy a glass of New Zealand wine at the base of the Taranaki Falls, which flows 20 metres over the edge of a large lava flow.
