Along with Symbian OS, WhatsApp will soon end support for other platforms as well.

WhatsApp will not work on Symbian devices after December 31, 2016. The company has started notifying Symbian users that they will not be able to use the app on their phone from next year.

A message alerting WhatsApp users on Symbian OS reads: "Unfortunately, you won't be able to use WhatsApp after 31/12/2016 because WhatsApp will no longer support your phone."

While WhatsApp in the past had also warned Symbian users that the support would be withdrawn by 2017, the company now has a date.

Along with Symbian OS, WhatsApp will soon end support for other platforms as well.

The company, in a blog post, has clearly stated that by the end of 2016, it will be ending support for WhatsApp Messenger on mobile platforms such as BlackBerry (including BlackBerry 10), Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7.1 and iPhone 3GS/iOS 6.

It is believed that these outdated operating systems do not offer the kind of capabilities required to expand WhatsApp's features in the future.
