The new Direct Messages setting will make private conversations easier, without the need to go through the usual 'follow' profile rule.

New Delhi: Twitter has tweaked its Direct Messages feature that will now allow you to send a one-to-one message to anyone without them having to follow you first.

The new Direct Messages setting will make private conversations easier, without the need to go through the usual 'follow' profile rule.

All you need to do is enable a setting to receive direct messages from anyone on the security and privacy settings page. Doing so will allow you to reply to any direct message or send one without having to follow the respective account in question.

Twitter notes in its blog that a new Direct Message button will be visible on the profile pages of people you can send direct messages to. You will be able to see the feature on Android and iPhone app as well.

Keeping user privacy in mind, the microblogging service also suggests taking steps to stop receiving direct messages from someone you don't want to privately converse with.

The new tweaked private messaging feature has been rolled out to all Twitter users globally.
