The Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 comes with MIL-STD810H certification and supports face recognition. It carries a replaceable 3,000mAh battery.

Samsung has launched the new Samsung Galaxy XCover 5, a no-frill, rugged smartphone designed to handle “demanding jobs” while meeting the needs of an increasingly mobile workforce. The company claims that the device is easy to carry, though it is rugged enough to withstand tough work environments. It also comes MIL-STD810H certification and supports face recognition. The Galaxy XCover 5’s carries a single rear camera and a replaceable 3,000mAh battery.

In terms of design, the smartphone comes with thick bezels around the screen that has a centrally aligned hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. Samsung says the Galaxy XCover 5 features enhanced shock absorption capabilities, enabling the phone to withstand drops from up to 1.5 metres. It also comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning the device can withstand water submergence (up to 1 metre) for roughly 30 minutes.

Speaking more about the smartphone, Mark Notton, Senior Director of Samsung Mobile Product Portfolio said, “The Galaxy XCover 5 is a device that addresses the challenges employers in the field often face, from ensuring protection of sensitive material to durable use in any environment. Whether on the factory floor or in extreme heat, rain or snow in outdoor conditions – it can keep up with the demands of the job, while improving productivity and increasing collaboration to make day-to-day work easier and more efficient.”

Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 features a 5.3-inch HD+ TFT display and runs on Android 11 out of the box. Under the hood, it packs the octa-core Exynos 850 chipset (clocked at 2.0GHz) paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage. The removable 3,000mAh battery supports 15W fast charging through the USB port and POGO pins.

The Galaxy XCover 5 comes equipped with a single 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, and for selfies, there’s a single 5-megapixel shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The phone also comes bundled with the Samsung Knox Capture that allows enterprise-grade scanning. Other notable features include NFC, Accelerometer, Proximity, Geomagnetic, Light, Gyro, and one programmable key. Samsung says the touch screen supports touch sensitivity even while wearing gloves. The rugged smartphone will be available later this month. It is priced at GBP 330 ( Rs 33,500 approximately).
