It has been close to three full years since the Xbox Series X/S consoles were released, and as we gradually approach the halfway mark of the console’s lifecycle, new plans surrounding an alleged Xbox Series X console without a disc drive have been discovered in the documentary evidence from Microsoft’s recent legal battle with the FTC.
As spotted by The Verge, the new console looks like a cylindrical version of the currently outgoing Xbox Series X, but without a disc drive—essentially making a digital version of the Xbox Series X—with 2TB of storage instead of 1TB, but at the same $500 price point.
Additionally, the said console, codenamed ‘Brooklin,’ is supposedly going to feature a more efficient 6nm die shrink and a reduction in PSU power by 15%. Furthermore, on the front of the cylindrical console, Microsoft is also going to add a new USB-C port on the front, which will support power delivery.
New Xbox ‘Sebille’ Controller Expected Too
Before the new console launches, Microsoft is also expected to launch a new two-tone, reworked controller that supports “precision haptic feedback.” It is also expected to have Bluetooth 5.2, support for cloud integration, and even have “VCA haptics” that “double as speakers.” Additionally, this new controller will also feature quieter buttons and modular thumbsticks, come with a rechargeable battery, and support lift-to-wake gesture.
When Could The New Discless Xbox Series X Launch?
Microsoft is expected to launch the digital Xbox Series X in November 2024, but before that, the gaming giant is said to also launch a new, updated version of the Xbox Series with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
We’ll have to wait and see when Microsoft officially unveils their new console now that it’s been leaked thanks to their legal battle with the FTC.
