Facebook is now working on a desktop version of its ‘group voice calling’ feature according to a TechCrunch report.
The feature was launched for smartphones earlier in April and seems to be in the testing stage and may soon find its way to desktops and laptops.
The move brings Facebook into a direct competition with Microsoft’s calling platform Skype. Considering the strong user base that Facebook has, it might just outdo Skype too. Also read: New Facebook Messenger Has Snapchat-like Camera Features
As of now, Facebook has given access to a few users to experience this feature. A phone icon on a group chat can be seen by a select few which will send an invite to all the group members instantly.
As per the latest update, the feature will support a maximum of 50 users on a group call.
With the addition of such features, Facebook Messenger is all set to become a complete platform for communication as it replaces the traditional ‘exchanging numbers’ requirement. Also the added security options which are absent in phone numbers give the messenger an undeniable edge in this competition. Also read: Facebook to Roll Out New Tools to Check Fake News
