New Delhi: Facebook's Messenger is reportedly set to get third-party app support and thus have added features. The social networking giant is expected to announce the news at its F8 Developer Conference in San Francisco in the coming week.
Sources have indicated that Facebook will be announcing about 20 third-party services which will be integrated with its existing Messenger app. The service will likely expand the capability to more developers following the rollout.
According to a Mashable report, the upcoming update will be the latest in a series of moves that has vastly expanded the reach of Messenger over the last year when it was pulled out as a separate app out of the main Facebook app, much to the ire of users. Most recently, it announced friend-to-friend payment support via the app.
Although Facebook's motives behind the integration are unclear, it could be perceived as a step by the social media giant in the same direction as Asian apps like WeChat and Line which also support third-party apps and services.
