Since the first iPhone and Android devices came out, we’ve seen huge leaps in mobile device technology. Smartphones have made our lives easier by letting us do things that once required multiple devices. They are now an all-in-one tool for tackling life’s daily challenges. But what if there was a mobile device that could make using your smartphone apps even easier?
The Rabbit R1 is a new $200 device that performs in-app actions on your behalf. It was revealed at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show 2024 (CES 2024) in Las Vegas, US. The device uses a Large Action Model to do the tasks for you, such as ordering food or cabs.
The device has a 2.88-inch touch screen that’s housed in a handheld console-like body. It will remind of the PlayDate console, which plays retro-style games. The device is powered by a 2.3GHz MediaTek processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It also has a rotating camera for optics. To use it, you have to press the “Push-to-Talk” button and this activates the Rabbit OS, and it starts listening for prompts.
The company says that it comes with Rabbit OS, which is based on the Large Action Model. “LAM is a new type of foundation model that understands human intentions on computers. With LAM, Rabbit OS understands what you say and gets things done,” the company said.
It comes with support for music, ride sharing, food, map research, shopping, travel, and generative AI apps. The company is also working on an experimental teach mode that will let you train their LAM.
This device is a lot like the Humane AI pin that was released last year. It aims to help people transition away from the smartphone interface, but unlike the Humane AI pin, it doesn’t require a subscription, is cheaper, and comes in a more familiar form factor.
