How Tamil Choreographer Ramji’s Wife Amritha Ram Is Linked With Film Industry

Ramji is an accomplished actor and choreographer, who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He has etched his name in the industry with stellar performances. Do you know that his wife, Amritha Ram is also associated with the film industry and is a renowned celebrity? She works as a costume designer and has designed costumes for the cast of Mugamoodi. She has also served as the costume designer for the films Sketch and Vakeel Saab. Amritha also took up the role of the stylist in the film Putham Pudhu Kaalai and the popular reality television show Bigg Boss. She will work next as the costume designer for the films SK21 and Thug Life.

Besides the Tamil films, Amritha showed her mettle in fashion designing in the Telugu films as well. She worked as a designer for the Allu Arjun-starrer S/O Satyamurthy. Another accomplishment of Amritha’s work as a costume designer was when she designed costumes for composer Devi Sri Prasad. She had designed the costumes while Prasad went on his 20-city American concert tour. Amritha revealed this in an interview with the Only Kollywood portal. She also shed light on the differences between some terms related to costume design. She told the key difference between styling and costume designing.

“Styling is about picking up ready-made, readily available clothes for stars while designing is about picking up fabric and stitching stuff from scratch. Both are two completely different things. A film like Vada Chennai has a lot of work for the designer in me. I have to put on my thinking hat and analyse in depth for the work involved,” she said.

Another of Amritha’s notable projects to date was Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai. This followed the underworld politics of North Chennai from 1977 to 2007. Different costumes were needed for the different time periods.

Outside films, Amritha owns a fashion store and co-manages work for Ramji’s dance schools.

While working as a designer for Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated film Indian 2, Amritha narrowly avoided injury during a fatal accident on the film’s sets. This incident happened in February 2020.
