YSR Congress, TRS oppose 'Rayala Telangana' proposal
The TRS has called for protests in the region for the next three days against the Rayala Telangana proposal.

Hyderabad: YSR Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Tuesday opposed the proposal for including two districts of Rayalseema in the new Telangana state to be carved out from Andhra Pradesh.

The TRS has called for protests in the region for the next three days against the Rayala Telangana proposal, which is believed to have been examined by the Group of Ministers.

"Who has asked for Rayala Telangana? Where it has come from? We are totally opposed to it. We demanded only a separate Telangana state with 10 districts (of present Andhra Pradesh), with Hyderabad as its capital and without any restrictions on Hyderabad," TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao said.

He appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Centre to withdraw any such proposal.

He also called for protest rallies by students and youth tomorrow in Telangana and a shut down in the region on December 5, against the so-called "Rayala Telangana" proposal.

The TRS politburo plans to meet on December 6 to decide its future course of action over the issue, since the Union Cabinet is scheduled to meet on that day.

The "Rayala Telangana" proposal envisages adding two Rayalaseema region districts of Anantapur and Kurnool to the proposed new separate state of Telangana.

It has been suggested by some Congress leaders as a way of addressing issues like sharing of water.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who supports a 'united' Andhra Pradesh, also strongly opposed the proposal of a "Rayala Telangana", saying that it has been proposed purely for political expediency.
