Bangalore: Former Karnataka chief minister and newly elected BJP MP BS Yeddyurappa has opted out of lobbying for a Cabinet berth at the Centre. In a letter written to Narendra Modi on Thursday, Yeddyurappa has said that he will focus on strengthening the BJP in Karnataka.
Yeddyurappa won from the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency by a huge margin of close to 4 lakh votes. Various corruption charges against Yeddyurappa have made it challenging for him to get a ministerial berth in Modi's Cabinet.
In his letter Yeddyurappa said, "You further expressed that since the expectations and aspirations are too high across the country, at least a few capable leaders must come forward to take the responsibility and work towards strengthening the party in their respective states. As you expressed in general, I voluntarily and wholeheartedly offer my willingness to work towards strengthening the party in Karnataka."
