New Delhi: With nearly Rs 90 crore, Praful Patel is the richest member in the Manmohan Singh Government while Mamata Banerjee ranks at the bottom of the table.
There are 47 crorepatis out of the 79 ministers in the new Government with Congress, which has the largest share of ministries, having the largest number of crorepati at 38.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)'s Praful Patel, who was sworn in as a Minister of State with Independent charge on Thursday, boasts of assets worth Rs 89.90 crore while Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who has assumed charge of the Railway Ministry has declared a modest wealth Rs 4.73 lakh.
Patel, elected from Bhandara-Gondia constituency in Maharashtra, is followed by Congress’ Preneet Kaur from Patiala, with Rs 42.30 crore assets.
Kapil Sibal has declared assets worth Rs 31.9 crore, independent organisation Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has claimed in a report complied with the details furnished by the candidates in affidavits filed along with their nomination papers during the elections.
Among the less rich ministers, Banerjee is followed by Trinamool colleague Adhikari Sisir Kumar with Rs 10.8 lakh of wealth and Kerala MP Anto Antony with Rs 14.24 lakh worth of assets.
The Government has nine ministers having against them “criminal” cases like rioting, being part of unlawful assembly, criminal conspiracy and defamation.
One of the ministers, a Trinamool leader from West Bengal, has a “serious” IPC charge of theft against him filed by the state police, the report said.
