Will Atishi Move Into Bungalow Dubbed 'Sheesh Mahal' by the BJP? When Will Kejriwal Vacate?
Will Atishi Move Into Bungalow Dubbed 'Sheesh Mahal' by the BJP? When Will Kejriwal Vacate?
The BJP had posted about the luxurious renovation work that was carried out at the Delhi Chief Minister's official residence dubbing it, 'Sheeshmahal'

With Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal resigning from the top post of the national capital, Chief Minister designate Atishi is next in line to takes oath. As soon as he steps into her new role, as per protocol, Atishi has to vacate her Mathura Road residence and shift to Delhi’s official Chief Minister’s residence.

There have been reports that Kejriwal will vacate the CM’s residence in 15 days. No government bungalow has been allotted for former Chief Ministers of Delhi like Sheila Dixit, Madanlal Khurana, Sushma Swaraj and Sahib Singh Verma.

Hence, Arvind Kejriwal needs to find a new house for himself. Last time, when Kejriwal resigned from the Chief Minister’s post, he went to stay at his private flat at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad. However, there are reports that he might have sold this flat a few years ago.

According to protocol, if anyone resigns from the post of Delhi Chief Minister, they have to vacate the official CM residence of Delhi within 15 days. However, based on prevalent circumstances, it is believed that Atishi can try the same formula as she did with Manish Sisodia’s bungalow this time as well.

When Manish Sisodia resigned from the post of Deputy Chief Minister after being arrested on charges pertaining to the liquor scam, he vacated his official residence at Mathura Road only on paper.

Though the bungalow was allotted to Atishi, she was rarely seen at that place. Atishi did have a name plate in front of the bungalow, but Manish Sisodia’s family continued to live at the same residence.

It is believed that this time as well, even if the Chief Minister’s residence is officially allotted to Atishi, Arvind Kejriwal and his family may continue to stay at the same place.

Last year, in a sting operation by a private TV channel, some photos inside Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence went viral on social media. The video showed glimpses of extravagant furnishing inside the house including expensive marble, foreign-made toilets, high-fi curtains and remote-operated commode system.

Later, Delhi’s LG ordered an audit on the renovation of the Chief Minister’s residence. The opposition BJP had posted about the luxurious renovation work that was carried out at the AAP chief’s official residence dubbing it, ‘Sheeshmahal’.

The BJP had claimed that Kejriwal had spent a whopping Rs 44.78 crore on the renovation of his ‘Sheeshmahal’. The party said that Rs 11.30 crore was spent on wooden flooring and wooden doors, Rs 1 lakh on every toilet. Out of the 15 washrooms, smart commode seats were installed in two of them at a cost of around Rs 9 lakh. A smart commode costs around Rs 4,27,272.

Moreover, 23 curtains costing Rs 8 lakh each were installed. The marble used in the bungalow was imported from Vietnam. A sum of Rs 2,58,00,000 was spent on electrical appliances, Rs 1,10,00,000 was spent on kitchen and its appliances, Rs 25,00,000 was spent on hot water generator and Rs 1 lakh was spent on a marble temple.
