Two computer engineers and a security person of Dinakaran were killed when a group of persons attacked the daily's office and set it on fire.

The attack was triggered by a controversial opinion poll in the paper. Dinakaran is owned by Karunanidhi's grand nephew Kalanidhi Maran and the incident culminated in the resignation of Dayanidhi Maran from the Union Cabinet later.

Though the state police had initially charged 19 persons, the CBI dropped charges against four persons.

One of the accused, Kattuvasi, was absconding, the CBI said.

The agency cited 86 government witnesses and 46 pieces of documentary evidence in support of their charges.
