Jammu: Thirteen activists of BJP and its youth wing Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) have been arrested in connection with the attack on cavalcade of Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather in Jammu.

The BJP and BJYM activists were taken into custody from various places in the city, police said, adding they were booked under sections 147, 148 and 353 (unlawful assembly, disruption of movement and attack) of Ranbir Panel Code (RPC).

They were produced before a court on Thursday which sent them to judicial remand for three days.

The arrested have been identified as Surinder Redy, Ablish Kumar, Sahil Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Gozpal Singh, Ambedkar Kumar and Nandanam of Hyderababd, Devi Lal, Kali Jain and Suresh Patial of Rajastha, Narotam Sharma (Jammu), Rakesh Gupta (Doda) Sushil Kumar (Rajouri).

As Rather's cavalcade was heading towards the Raj Bhawan for the "At Home" hosted by the Governor on Republic Day, BJP activists intercepted Rather's vehicle at Kachi Chawani on Wednesday.

They hit the vehicle and snatched the "state flag", but did not touch the national flag, they said. His escort and police swung into action pushed the workers aside.

The workers were coming out of party headquarters after a public rally addressed by the senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitlay, Anant Kumar and BJYM National President Anurag Thakur.

After the incident, Rather said, "It is a minor incident. They did not attack me."
