Bengaluru: It’s bad news for those MLAs hoping to get plum cabinet berths in the Karnataka government as the co-ordination and monitoring committee has decided to push cabinet expansion plans post December 22.
The committee headed by former CM Siddaramaih which met on Wednesday said that they wanted to go ahead with the expansion on December 9, but as the assembly session would convene on December 10 in Bengaluru, there wouldn't be enough time.
The committee has also said that the decision on filling up vacancies for chairmanship of various boards and corporations, would also be taken on December 22. The coalition partners will follow the same formula of 2/3 seats for the Congress and 1/3 for the JDS in filling these positions.
The cabinet expansion has been a contentious issue as the fear of those not accommodated switching to the BJP has rattled the government in the past. However, the government has exuded confidence in its stability.
"There are no dissidents, Satish Jarkiholi has made it clear that he is a Congress member. No MLAs will leave the party. They (BJP) are dreaming of Operation Kamala because they were successful once. But it is just their dream," Siaddaramaiah said.
Reacting to mediapersons on the statement made by union minister Prakash Javadekar on the political 'dhamaka' waiting to happen in Karnataka, JDS national spokesperson and member of the coordination committee Danish Ali said, "The dhamaka won't be felt in Karnataka, but BJP should prepare itself for the explosion they will feel on December 11 when they lose power in all 5 states."
Counting for polls to the 5 state assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana will take place on the December 11.
