Jayant Patil, the state president of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has called upon voters in Maharashtra to teach a lesson to traitor MLAs and repeat the history created in 2019.
Speaking at the Shiv Swarajya Yatra in Bhandara, Patil launched a scathing attack on the current government, addressing various issues affecting the state. Urging everyone to take responsibility for creating a new history, he emphasised that the party had come to the people’s doorsteps for this cause.
“Nothing moves without money, and after the Lok Sabha elections, the government, in fear, opened its treasury,” he said, highlighting the lack of development in the state. He also mocked the government for relying heavily on advertisements to showcase their work, claiming that they are advertising from door-to-door because even they are not satisfied with their own performance.
In light of the upcoming assembly elections, Patil stressed the importance of assessing the strength of their supporters and candidates. He noted with pride that there were as many women supporters as men, underlining the inclusivity of the movement. Seeking blessings to oust the ruling alliance in Maharashtra, he promised to ensure the safety of children, especially girls, in schools.
Patil also pointed out the inadequacies in the state’s healthcare system, urging improvements in primary health centres and district hospitals. He touched upon the long-pending Dapewada irrigation project, assuring that once completed, it would greatly benefit farmers, making the land more fertile.
He then shifted focus to the unjust taxation system, criticising how helicopter purchases are exempt from taxes while taxes on bicycles and motorcycles are exorbitantly high. He called for a reduction in inflation and better prices for farmers’ produce, including cotton.
Finally, Patil expressed concern about the current government’s failure to tackle issues such as excessive rainfall, accusing them of ignoring the people’s plight. He reminded the voters of their role in pushing the BJP out of power during the Lok Sabha elections and urged them to continue their efforts to defeat the party, accusing it of attempting to alter the Constitution laid down by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Patil called for widespread support for the candidate chosen by the Maha Vikas Aghadi, stating that their symbol must reach every household.
