New Delhi: As many Congress members at the AICC meet on Friday demanded that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi be named as the Prime Ministerial candidate, Rahul said this was against the party's policies. He said that the PM candidate will be chosen by Congress MPs after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
"The Congress will win the elections and its PM will be chosen by the elected Parliamentarians. I am a foot soldier of the party. I am ready to do what the party wants me to do," he said.
"I'm a sepoy of the Congress party, I'll serve you the way you want me to," he said stressing that he was ready to take up any responsibility that the party gives him.
At the AICC meet, Congress President Sonia Gandhi too stressed that the decision on not naming Rahul as the PM candidate was final. Sonia's speech was marred by protests by some party members shouting slogans demanding that Rahul be made the Prime Ministerial candidate.
However, Sonia silenced the protesters making it clear that the decision taken at the CWC meet was final.
