Burdwan: Protesting the repeated publication of erroneous results, activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI), students' wing of the CPI(M), today allegedly ransacked the Burdwan University premises.
"Some students and a large number of outsiders broke open the lock of the main gate of the university and ransacked
the premises," university Vice-chancellor Smriti Kumar Sarkar said.
They damaged motorbikes, furniture, window panes and the authorities were forced to call the police to protect the
staff and property of the university, Sarkar said. SFI district secretary Dipankar Dey claimed that around 12 activists were injured in the police lathicharge on their activists.
He said the organisation wanted to give a deputation to the authorities on the "repeated publication of erroneous result" for the second year's examination. SFI also demanded resignation of the vice-chancellor, registrar and controller of examination.
The SFI organised a rally from Burdwan railway station to the university but it was locked, Dey said, claiming that when the students tried to enter the university after breaking the lock, they were lathicharged by the police. On the publication of 'erroneous' result, the vice-chancellor said the corrected result has been published in the university website early today, at around 1 AM.
Despite that, they ransacked the university premises and the authorities will lodge a complaint with the police, he said.
