New Delhi: United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today appealed to the people of Delhi to cast their vote on Saturday and neutralise the terror tactics of militants.

Priyanka was among the first few to cast her vote this morning along with her husband Robert Vadera.

“I think it is very important to cast a vote for all of us to show that we believe in democracy and we will fight any affront to our nation and to our pride as is happening in Bombay. Militants should be killed. I think it is an affront to our nation, and whoever has done that, should be made to pay for it,” said Priyanka.

The assembly elections in Delhi and five other states are expected to be a run down to the forthcoming general elections in early 2009.

The term of the present Legislative Assembly of Delhi comes to end on December 17.

The stakes are high for Sheila Dikshit, who has been the Chief Minister of Delhi since 1998.

Polling in the 69 assembly constituencies will be held in 10,985 booths located in 2509 premises.

Seventy nine observers have been deputed by the Election Commission to oversee the elections.

About 70,000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure free and fair elections.
