Pacheco's ‘special’ officer files anticipatory bail
An Officer on Special Duty to ex-Goa minister, on Monday moved an anticipatory bail in a local court in Panaji.

Panaji: An Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Goa tourism minister Fransisco Mickey Pacheco, on Monday moved an anticipatory bail in a local court in Panaji fearing arrest in connection with the death of Nadia Torrado, a close friend of the minister.

Lyndon Monteiro, who was summoned by Crime Branch, said considering the attitude of police, he has reasons to believe that he may be implicated in the case.

Monteiro said that except for professional relationship he shares in the course of employment with Pacheco, he is not concerned with former minister's personal life.

Pacheco is on the run after he was quizzed by the Crime Branch in connection with death 28-year-old Torrado, a woman who committed suicide by consuming poison. Goa police have received the post-mortem report, which says that there were 11 injuries on Nadia's body.

They could register a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Monteiro said he was summoned by Crime Branch on Sunday.

"When I tried to find out the reason for calling me at such a short notice, police appeared adamant and rudely stated that he is not supposed to question them and they are not bound to give any reasons," he said in the application moved before session’s judge, Margao.

Pleading for anticipatory bail, the OSD said he will remain present before the court or investigating agency or any court whenever required.

The Crime Branch is investigating the death of Torrado, who died last on Sunday, almost a fortnight after consuming poison.

Torrado was shifted to Mumbai and later Chennai for treatment after she had consumed rat poison.
