Howrah: Alleged members of the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday heckled an Election Commission official in Howrah as he attempted to enforce the Commission's model code of conduct.

The incident happened in central Howrah when EC officials led by an officer, Soumen Acharya, tried to remove TMC flags, banners and festoons from government-owned lamp posts which were put up in violation of the model code.

Some 200-250 alleged TMC activists gheraoed the officer and manhandled him.

The protesters alleged that the EC officer was only removing TMC flags and not the CPI-M flags. The EC promptly denied the allegations.
