Opposition parties target Modi government over HRD circular on school to stay open on Christmas
The Congress, TMC, NCP, Left parties staged a walk out from Lok Sabha accusing the government of misleading the House.

New Delhi: The united opposition targeted the Narendra Modi government on Wednesday over an Human Resource Development Ministry circular that reportedly said that schools should stay open on Christmas in order to observe Good Governance day.

The Congress, TMC, NCP, Left parties staged a walk out from Lok Sabha accusing the government of misleading the House. Opposition parties have demanded a clarification from the government whether circulars were issued by the government or not.

HRD Minister Smriti Irani was in House but she didn't reply.

The opposition sadi that it wanted to bring a privilege notice against Smriti and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu.

Earlier, Smriti Irani had clarified that all schools will be closed for Christmas. "There is an essay competition planned, but it is voluntary and online," she had said.

The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti had issued a circular saying the government wants all schools to celebrate the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25. It wanted schools to carry out essay writing, quiz and debating competitions on good governance on the day.
