Ahmedabad:The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Gujarat has kept up its demand for contesting at least two Lok Sabha seats in the state, even as ally Congress has already announced its own candidates in 12 constituencies.
The Congress is expected to make an announcement on candidates for the remaining 14 seats from Gujarat in the next two days.
"We were not considered for any of the seats in the list of 12 Lok Sabha seats out of the 26 in Gujarat already announced by the Congress party last week. Our demand still remains for contesting from at least two seats - mainly Rajkot and Ahmedabad (East) - out of six demanded by us earlier," Jayant Patel, Gujarat NCP president, told IANS.
"There seems no option now but to wait and watch how many seats are given to us under the NCP-Congress seat sharing alliance."
Patel had earlier threatened to field candidates on all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat if the Congress did not give sufficient seats to the party to contest the polls.
