Gaya/Patna: Naxals launched multiple strikes before the fifth phase of Assembly elections in Bihar exploding a bomb in Gaya, derailing a train and blasting a mobile tower in Aurangabad.
One policeman was killed and three journalists of a TV news channel were injured in the bomb blast at Banke Bazar area. The bomb was kept in a bag at the local block office.
Earlier, ten wagons of a goods train got derailed when Naxals blew up a railway track near Kurhani railway station in Hajipur-Muzaffarpur section of East-Central Railway in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Monday morning, DGP Neelmani said.
Over 50 Naxals triggered a dynamite blast blowing up railway track near Kurhani station, he said.
The wagons of a goods train which passed over that track after the blast got derailed disrupting movement of rail traffic since 3 am on Monday.
Trains were being diverted from Hajipur to Muzaffarpur via Sahpur-Patori station, he said.
Meanwhile, rail traffic was restored on Mughalsarai section under Mughalsarai division of ECR which was affected following Maoists threat to plant bombs during a bandh call by them.
Bomb disposal squad after thorough checking of the tracks between Ismailpur and Rafigunj station found that there was no bomb planted on the track, Neelmani said, adding, following which the authorities decided to allow movement of trains.
Naxals also blew up a mobile tower in Aurangabad on Sunday night less than 48 before the fifth phase of voting in Bihar Assembly elections. Voting in Aurangabad will take place on Tuesday.
The blast occurred in the same area from where a landmine and IED were recovered from a polling booth four days ago.
Naxals also struck in Orissa as well blowing up a newly constructed school building in Malkangiri district. There have been no reports of any casualties.
