Mumbai: Shiv Sena on Friday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Russia as "unfortunate", refusing to share ally BJP's euphoria over the development.

"It is unfortunate that Modi ji met Nawaz Sharif today. There has been no change in conditions (on the border). People have lots of expectations from Modi ji," party president Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday.

"I feel he (Modi) is capable of changing the current situation and the neighbouring country needs to be taught a lesson in a manner it understands," he said.

"Recently, our army had gone into Myanmar to eliminate terrorists there. I don't know if the government has learnt any lessons from that but Pakistan needs to be taught a lesson as well," said Thackeray.

Modi and Sharif, in their first bilateral talks in over an year, met for nearly one hour on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Ufa, Russia on Friday and discussed entire gamut of issues between the two countries.
