New Delhi: The suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi on Thursday faced a bombshell from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which accused him of trying to split the world cricket.
According to a fresh chargesheet slapped on Lalit Modi, a copy of which is with CNN-IBN, says Modi was planning to create a parallel IPL-styled league in England. The notice says that according to an e-mail it received from England Cricket Board (ECB) chief Giles Clarke, Modi held a meeting in Delhi with three English Counties –Yorkshire, Lancashire and Warwickshire and the IMG chief Amdrew Wildblood for setting up another T20 league in England.
It claims that Modi allegedly offered huge financial rewards to the English Counties to make this IPL style league happen. He is also believed to have offered the existing IPL franchisees a change to buy another one in England.
Modi is also charged with allegedly challenging player loyalties by implying that they would play for money rather than their country.
The notice also alleges that both the BCCI and ECB were kept out of this entire plan. It says that Modi was even planning to start a parallel Test match and ODI structure under the aegis of Indian Premier League.
